Greetings to all

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bruce Pierce and I an a 28 year member of Squadron 150, Mechanic Falls-Minot-Poland, 3rd District (Androscoggin County)and I have succeeded Don Allisot as Commander, Detachment of Maine. I’ve held most offices at Squadron, District and Detachment levels. Hopefully, the journey has adequately prepared me for the year we are starting. I look forward to visiting many of you as I visit the Squadrons this year. We have a lot to do and I’m asking for your help. First thing is membership. This is the life blood of the organization. Each year, National sends out a list of target dates with corresponding membership goals. Last year, the Detachment of Maine made all but three target dates and made 100% by May. This year, let’s make them all, including 100% by May 13th. This will make three years in a row that we beat Department to 100% membership!

My project this year is Maine Blind camp. I attended this years’ Blind Camp and met some folks who don’t let blindness stop them from living and contributing to life. They came from Maine and away, but they all shared that special blessing. I now ask each Squadron to raise $100 for blind camp as our Legion family is now the sole sponsor of this program.

Lastly, I inherited an interesting project from our PDC Donny Allisot. He has seen fit to dive into the Atlantic Ocean at high noon on New Year’s Day for the past two years. Seriously, this is known as the Annual Lobster dip and it supports Special Olympics of Maine. I’m asking for pledges for the Commander taking the plunge as I refuse to freeze it all in vain. I have pledge kits available for any members who wish to dip and raise money for Maine Special Olympics. You may contact me through the website to get them.

I look forward to working with you all this year. Let’s make it a successful year with membership, organization, teamwork and leadership.

Yours in service.

Bruce Pierce
